What Saint Joseph Saw

Volume XXV, Number 23 – December 21, 2021

CatholiCity Citizens,

Most of you know I prefer to stay out of your hair for the big holidays, so I have the briefest of Christmas meditations and an ancient prayer to Saint Joseph. So long, 2021!

Almost Home

We're much closer to keeping our doors open through 2022. I am consoled that so many of you agree with why we should continue striving to reach souls. Thank you.

We need just a few dozen more Monthly Donors (to cover rent, utilities, and wages) and only a few hundred more one-time gifts. The four easy ways to participate in our optional annual appeal are below my signature.

The Best View in the Manger

It is difficult to decide. Was the best view that of our infant Lord, who gazed upon Mary and Joseph? Or was it Our Lady, who looked upon Jesus and Joseph? Perhaps the shepherds, who witnessed this humble family of three. For me, it is about what Joseph saw, who he was worried about, and who he cared for: Our Lady and a completely vulnerable Jesus.

Let Us Trust Joseph

I adapted what follows from an ancient prayer to Saint Joseph, so please join me and tens of thousands of your fellow CatholiCity Citizens in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit...

O Saint Joseph, whose protection
is so great, so strong, and so prompt
before the throne of God,
I place in you all my interests and desires,
along with the most ardent intentions
of all CatholiCity Citizens praying with me.

Assist us by your powerful intercession
and obtain for us from your divine son
all the spiritual blessings
through Jesus Christ, Our Lord,
so that having engaged here below
your heavenly power,
we may offer our thanksgiving and homage
to the most loving of Fathers.

I never weary of contemplating you
with Jesus asleep in your arms.
I dare not approach while
he reposes near your heart!
Embrace him in my name
and kiss his fine head for me,
and ask him to return the kiss
when I draw my dying breath.
Amen.

2021, 2022... 2033

Thank you for spending the Year of Saint Joseph with me. Who knows what the next twelve months will bring? More craziness, I suppose. No matter what comes, I'll meet you there. And now there's just eleven more years until 2033, the 2000th anniversary of the Triumph of the Cross!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

With Saint Nicholas,
