The CatholiCity Message

Volume VIII, Number 1 – January 28, 2004

Dear CatholiCity Citizen,

Please pardon the lag since our last message.

It's been quite a month here–on top of our busiest December and early January ever–our managing director and his wife welcomed their first child into the world on January 8th (Saint Maximilian Kolbe's birthday). It was a rough pregnancy followed by a difficult delivery for the little one and her mom; they will be grateful for your prayers.

QUOTES OF THE MONTH

"New Year's Eve is like every other night and yet no man has quite the same thoughts this evening that come with the coming of darkness on other nights."
Hamilton Wright Mabie

"Only Irish coffee provides in a single glass all four essential food groups: alcohol, caffeine, sugar, and fat."
Alex Levine

1. OUR FATHERS
We often attend daily Mass at our local diocesan cathedral. Today we received Holy Communion from the hand of our bishop, who offered Mass for his deceased mother and gave a touching homily. It was the feast of Saint Thomas Aquinas, who, more than any man who ever lived, has been our intellectual father. It was Thomas who taught us most about the virtue of prudence. After Communion, we gave Jesus His daily 20 minutes of silent prayer. We continued a beautiful 30-day novena to Saint Joseph, which shall end on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes in February. As it is a Wednesday, we're fasting for all the women in our lives as E5 Men today–especially for Our Lady's intentions.

We are grateful to God the Father for all the fathers He has placed in our lives: our own dads, spiritual fathers such as Saint Thomas and Saint Josemaria, all our bishops since we were little, for popes John XXIII, Paul VI, John Paul I, and John Paul II–the popes of our life since we were born–and now, after a year of steady contemplation, for Saint Joseph. 2003 was about Saint Joseph for us, and we began sharing him with you. It's going to be fun to see what 2004 brings.

OLD TESTAMENT LIMERICK OF THE MONTH
Pharoah encouraged his daughter
to bathe as a good princess oughter;
but he wasn't too glad
when she hollered "Hey Dad--
Look who I found in the water!"

2. DANGER WILL ROBINSON
We live in a fallen world. To wit:

Hot dogs come in packets of ten. Hot dog buns come in packets of eight. Sadly, the buns are too large for the dog. Will somebody please come out with smaller buns in a packet of ten? And while you're at it, take out the carbs.

5. PLUS, MAKE A FORTUNE ON EBAY IN 2024
If you're interested in receiving FREE promotional posters, post cards, flyers, and door hangers to help promote The Passion, you can receive them for the cost of shipping at this website:

(OFFER EXPIRED)

We're not experts or collectors, but owning an original poster of the most-seen movie of all time (our prediction about The Passion) can't be a bad investment.

6. IN LOCO PARENTIS
As all 70,000 of us pray together for the first time in 2004, perhaps you might imagine what it is like to be Saint Joseph and pray these words:

"I am all yours, Mary, and all that I have is yours."

Amen. Thanks for being a CatholiCity Citizen.

With Christ,
