The CatholiCity Message
Volume V, Number 29 – December 21, 2001
Dear CatholiCity Citizen,
On behalf of all of our workers here, we would like to extend to you and those you love our warmest Christmas tidings. We have just a couple of quick items and the usual unusual stuff...
1. 54 DAY NOVENA STARTS NEW YEAR'S DAY
Remember that our first CatholiCity 54 Day Rosary Novena of 2002 begins on 1 January, and ends on 23 February. It's an easy way to get started on an excellent resolution: to pray the Rosary more often. For more info on this novena, go here:

2. TWO MILLION SINCE JANUARY
You've probably heard on the news that over two million Americans have lost their jobs in the past year. We know it's been a hard year for some CatholiCity Citizens in this regard. Let's all remember to pray for the unemployed during our family prayers, our Rosaries, and at Mass. Let's all 70,000 pray for this intention now, and also for all the families who have a parent away from home during Christmas, especially for our soldiers. "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit...
"Dear Saint Joseph, you knew what it was like to lose your job, even to leave your homeland, for the sake of your family. Please intercede powerfully on behalf of all our friends and relatives and for anyone we know who is seeking employment, or is away from home this Christmas, especially for our soldiers. Ask your Son to give them a superabundance of the graces they need to hang in there and to provide generously for their temporal needs. We trust in Providence, as you did. We love you, Saint Joseph! We love you, Mary! We love you, Jesus! Blessed Escriva, Blessed Pio, and Blessed Juan, pray for us! Amen."
3. THE BIG THREE
On the CatholiCity homepage we've posted a link with the great news that Blessed Juan Diego, Padre Pio, and Monsignor Escriva are going to be canonized by the Holy Father. We have just one comment: cool.

4. ELVIS IS LEAVING THE BUILDING
It's not too late to send a gift to your favorite charities (and we don't mean just us) before the New Year comes, especially if you would like to do so for tax benefits. If you wish to make a donation to help our online apostolate, we'll take special care to note in your thank you letter that we received your gift for this calendar year ended. QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"The communion of saints; how shall I explain it to you? You know what a blood transfusion does for the body? Well that's what the communion of saints does for the soul."
Blessed Josemaria Escriva
"Tithe if you love Jesus. Anyone can honk."

JOKE OF THE WEEK
As a five-year-old looked at the Christmas stickers on the window of her home, she called out each reindeer's name, but then stopped and asked her mother, "But where is Olive?" Her mother didn't understand. "What do you mean, sweetie?" she asked. "You know, Mommy, Olive the other reindeer!"

SURPRISE
Oops, we almost forgot. Just after Christmas, after many months of steady and often difficult programming, we're going to "upload" the first new version of our website in over four years. We might be down from time to time while we transfer to the new version, so we ask for your patience. We're looking forward to hearing your reactions.
And so ends our last CatholiCity Message for 2001. Next year will mark the sixth year writing this message, and we just want to thank you for being a part of our work and our lives. It's humbling to write for you; an honor. Today is the "darkest day" of the year in terms of sunrise/sunset, and one of the best things about Christmas is that after Jesus comes, the world gets more and more light. Stay in the light, brothers and sisters, stay in the light.
In the Peace of Christ, with Goodwill Towards All,
With Christ,
Your Friends at CatholiCity
