The CatholiCity Message
Volume III, Number 27 – September 30, 1999
Dear CatholiCity Citizen,
The Mary Foundation and CatholiCity are in a bind -- see the first item. This week's message is jam-packed. A cornucopia of information.
1. KICKED OUT
For the past seven years, the Mary Foundation (and CatholiCity) have occupied the same rented office space in Fairview Park, Ohio. It's a pretty cruddy, fairly crowded space by most standards, but it was very cheap and had nice light from big front windows. It is very close to our post office boxes, which is crucial for an apostolate like ours where a good part of our day-to-day work is mail order fulfillment. This summer, the owner, a professed Christian (Lord, please help us to be charitable!), refused to renew our lease, even though we literally begged him for the sake of souls to do so, so we were forced to go "month to month." His building, which had been on the market for over a decade, was suddenly sold to two lawyers (practicing Catholics) less than two weeks ago. We were immediately given notice to get out by October 31st. Our attorney is working on the matter, but we have little recourse, and inexpensive office space is hard to find in our area. The pre-Christmas timing is awful. It will cost thousands by the time we move the equipment, phone lines, T1 line and will almost surely disrupt or postpone the shipping of books, CDs, and tapes. CatholiCity.com might have to shut down temporarily. It would be a miracle if we could somehow stay in this space until 2000 (or quickly find a cheap, nearby replacement space we've been searching for since getting the news), and you know where miracles comes from! So please pray with your 15,000 fellow citizens:
"Dear Immaculate Mary, Queen of CatholiCity, and true owner of the Mary Foundation, please ask your Son to grant us a miracle and allow the Mary Foundation and CatholiCity to remain in it's current office space until the end of the year or later, or at least until we can find another suitable place to rent. Please send powerful angels to melt the hearts of the new owners. Never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection was left unaided! Thank you, Mom. We love you. Amen."
2. OCTOBER ONE
October 1 is a big day for us because it's the Feast of Saint Therese Lisieux. She's our girl, all right, and she should be yours too. She has always helped us run the Mary Foundation and CatholiCity. We asked her to be the patroness of Saint Jude Media's third novel, House of Gold. Her autobiography, The Story of a Soul, has had a profound effect on our spirituality (and gazillions of other Catholics). Her "little way" is the best way. Read this book. Try looking for the book in your local library or buy a copy online at amazon.com.
3. THREE IS THE PERFECT NUMBER...
...because it represents the Holy Trinity.

4. JOKES OF THE WEEK
"Futon" is a Japanese word that means "sore back."
The surgeon says to his patient, "I have some good news and some bad news." "Give me the bad news first," says the patient. "The bad news is that we have to amputate both your feet." "That's terrible!" cried the patient. "What's the good news?" "The good news," said the surgeon, "is that the patient in the room next door wants to buy your shoes."
We'll tell you if we get that miracle.
Yours in Christ,
Your Friends at CatholiCity
