The CatholiCity Message
Volume III, Number 20 – July 9, 1999
Dear CatholiCity Citizen,
Every CatholiCity Message generates numerous "feedback" messages. Obviously, we can't answer most of them. Please, just for this week, unless it's an emergency, allow us a vacation. And so, a few items, each one quick and short.
1. JOKE DILEMMA
Every time (every single time), no matter what the subject matter, when we include a joke in the CatholiCity Message, someone, somewhere is offended. We regret if last week's joke bothered you; it was not intended.
2. TRADITIONAL MASS
We have a deep regard for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the Tridentine Rite. We have attended this Mass on occasion, although we also love the Novus Ordo rite, especially when it is said properly and reverently. Many CatholiCity Citizens also love the traditional Mass, and are in full submission to Rome in heart, mind, and soul. You are always welcome here.
3. THE MOST EFFECTIVE TOOL
Please join your fellow CatholiCity Citizens in a short prayer for the mentally ill. "Dear Jesus, help all those who suffer from depression and other mental illnesses. It has often been said that the worst kind of illness is mental illness, because the most effective 'tool' for fighting disease is the mind. Please, we beg You, help the families of those who suffer from mental illness. We trust in you! Amen."
4. We LOVE YOU
About twelve months ago, after pondering the fact that we are only one heartbeat away from eternity, we began an experiment with our friends and relatives. We started ending a few phone calls with a sincere, quick, and heartfelt, "I love you." One never knows when any phone call might be the last phone call to that particular person. "I love you" beats "Good bye" hands down. We're not exactly known as "Mr. Sensitive" in our social circles. But we got used to it. We like it. Do they like it? We don't know. We're not sure we care (out comes "Mr. Sensitive" again).
5. MEET YOU IN LONG BEACH
On July 16-18th, we'll be in Coon Rapids, Minnesota for the first annual Catholic Men's Conference, and the following weekend, we'll be in Long Beach, California, for the annual Saint Joseph Communication Family Conference. If you want to "volunteer" to help man (or woman) our tables, just stop by and see if we need any help.
6. CAN YOU LIST THE TEN COMMANDMENTS?
7. IN ORDER?
With Our Lady,
Your Friends at CatholiCity
