The CatholiCity Message

Volume III, Number 2 – January 21, 1999

Dear CatholiCity Citizen,

Hi. Lots of cool stuff this week. Let's start with a prayer that 10,000 people can participate in...

1. THEY'RE SUFFERING AND WAITING
Let's pray the following together to ask Our Lord to release suffering souls from purgatory: "Eternal Father, I offer thee the most precious blood of thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with all the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen." There now. We've participated in a glorious supernatural event–an event that will change the world as souls are released to heaven, and intercede from here to eternity, in thankfulness and joy, for souls here on earth.

2. MEA CULPA
Last week, when we announced the new college Our Lady of Corpus Christi, we failed to mention these other well-known and excellent Catholic colleges: Christendom College in Front Royal, Virginia, the University of Dallas, and the "other" College of Saint Thomas More in Fort Worth, Texas. One CatholiCity Citizen even wrote to point out that some secular colleges such as Texas A&M have vibrant Catholic student communities. We're sure there are others–please don't email us. For more info on Catholic colleges, go to Best Catholic Links on our homepage page and type in "college".

3. NOT YOUR EVERYDAY READING
If you want to read something direct and to the point, check out one pro-life priest's reply to an invitation to attend an event featuring pro-abortion Governor Gray Davis of California:

4. CURIOUS MINDS WANT TO KNOW
Did you ever wonder what your fellow CatholiCity Citizens believe about the potential impact of the Y2K computer problem? We do. So we're going to do a simple, easy online poll. We'll announce the results next week. To participate, send us an email and put "MY Y2K TAKE" in the subject field. For our purposes, the term "infrastructure" refers to the electric, phone, banking, water, and transportation systems. Then enter one of the following four CAPITALIZED choices in the body of your message:

ZERO IMPACT (Few or insignificant economic, social, or infrastructure problems)

BUMP IN ROAD (Minor and scattered economic or social problems and some inconveniences, scattered but quickly fixed infrastructure problems)

ICE STORM (Widespread but generally non-life-threatening infrastructure problems lasting perhaps for days and weeks, economic recession, some serious but temporary social unrest)

MELTDOWN (Widespread, life-threatening infrastructure problems lasting for months or indefinitely, severe Depression, serious and continued social unrest)

Let's find out. There's no need to explain your choice or give your name. We'll tally the votes, delete the responses, and let you know for next week.

MARRIAGE QUOTES
"I praise wedlock, I praise marriage: but it is because they produce virgins."
Saint Jerome

"A man's good work is effected by doing what he does; a woman's by being what she is."
G.K. Chesterton

"If the man is the head of the family, the woman is the heart, and as he occupies the chief place in ruling, so she may and ought to claim for herself the chief place in love."
Pope Pius XI, Casti Connubii

Yours with Mary,

Your Friends at CatholiCity
