The CatholiCity Message
Volume II, Number 31 – August 21, 1998
Dear CatholiCity Citizen,
Several quick items this week...
1. RED HOT RED HAT A HIT
We had a chance to read Dr. Ralph McInerny's new novel from Ignatius Press (800-537-0390), The Red Hat, about three Americans (childhood friends) who become embroiled in a controversial papal election after the death of "a Polish pope." One is a wishy-washy but ambitious archbishop, another an aging and cynical liberal priest-columnist, and the third is a quiet but devout historian who becomes a confidant to the pope after being named U.S Ambassador to the Vatican. Thumbs Up! We very much enjoyed this page-turner and was fascinated by the complicated "inside" scoop on Vatican politics. McInerny, a Notre Dame professor and Thomist is the founder of Crisis magazine and is well known for the "Fr. Dowling Mysteries" books and TV series. Available online here:
2. HEY HEY HEY. YEAH YEAH YEAH. LA LA LA
The preceding title has nothing to do with this item, but it beats a boring one that is related to the item. It if itches, don't scratch it. Apply butter. Yes, really. (We're awake. Or dreaming.)
3. CATHOLICITY CITIZEN TO GO ON EWTN LIVE
Marcus Grodi is going to host our friend and CatholiCity's very own Citizen, Rick Ricciardi. Rick fell away from his boyhood Catholic faith and was a Protestant for decades, is a former Assembly of God deacon. I'm sure Rick will be mentioning CatholiCity.
Yours in Christ,
Your Friends at CatholiCity
