Ignacio de Arbieto

Jesuit, born at Madrid, February, 1585; died at lima, Peru, 7 August 1670. He joined the Society of Jesus in 1603, and was ordained a priest at Lima, in 1612. He was appointed to the chair of philosophy at Quito in Ecuador, went thence to Arequipa, and finally to Lima, where he died. He taught (with interruptions) for twenty-five years in Peru, and spent his last years in writing the "Historia del Perú y de las fundaciones que he hecho en él la Compañía de Jesús." The manuscript is at the National Archives of Lima, and in a hopeless state of decay.
